NASDAQ-listed Equinex has quietly settled on the $100 million-plus acquisition of its SY5 IBX data centre site in Sydney’s Alexandria, believed to be from a related party.
The 3.9-hectare site at 506-518 Gardeners Rd includes the group’s existing SY4 centre of 27,830 sqm, as well as 25,000 sqm of vacant land for the new facility, which is under construction and expected to open by the end of the current quarter.
Equinex announced in February that it would spend $225 million on the development of SY5, which will join its SY1, SY2, SY3 and SY4 centres in the inner city suburb, and take its national total to 16. Three facilities are in Melbourne, two in Perth, one in each of Canberra, Adelaide and Brisbane, and the balance in Sydney.
The seven existing Sydney centres occupy more than 19,925 sqm, and the Melbourne centres 8,450 sqm.
Equinex has spent $800 million on its expansion throughout the Asia Pacific over the past three years, where is has 40 data centres in 12 markets. In April last year, the company acquired Australian data centre provider Metronode and its 10 data centres for $1 billion, and is expanding of its Melbourne facility and PE2 centre in Perth.
